Attic insulation in Abilene TX - upstairs rooms that hold their temperature

If upstairs runs hot or the power bill keeps climbing, we seal the attic floor and top up the insulation so rooms stay comfortable.

An attic floor is covered with loose white insulation beneath reflective foil and wooden rafters.

I look at your attic myself

I usually come out myself to look over your attic before anyone quotes a number, because what's already up there decides the job. Our installers do the work, and I check it with you before we call it done.

Nine years sorting out older attics

We've been in business since 2017, and the calls we're best known for are older attics and rooms that won't hold their temperature. I'd rather tell you a job isn't worth doing than sell you a layer that won't help.

Licensed and insured for attic work

We're licensed and insured, so the people working over your ceiling are covered on the job. When you're ready, call (325) 266-6064 or send the form with your address and what you see in the attic, and we'll set a time to come out.

Attic insulation in Abilene, TX

Attic insulation is a layer over your attic floor, usually blown-in fiberglass or cellulose, loose fill we blow through a hose and spread evenly across the ceiling. In Abilene it helps when the upstairs runs hot, the room over the garage never feels right or the power bill keeps climbing.

Most of the time, a house that won't hold its temperature is losing the fight in the attic. Either the insulation up there has settled thin, or air is leaking up through the ceiling around lights, pipes and the hatch, and adding a layer without knowing which won't fix it. I'd rather find the actual cause. We're based in Abilene and work in the cities around it, and older attics are a lot of what we see.

The price moves with the size of the attic, how much of what's up there is worth keeping, how many gaps need sealing, and whether something like a roof leak or old wiring has to be fixed first. The schedule turns on those same repairs and on whether the job needs a permit, which we take care of with the city before we start. I explain what I find up there before I write a number.

Attic insulation, done in the right order

Fixing what's wrong before we insulate

I start by looking at what's already up there, because some problems have to be fixed before any insulation goes in. A leaky roof that's soaked the old insulation or left mold on the rafters needs a pro to correct it first. Knob and tube wiring, the old kind run on porcelain knobs, can be a fire hazard in contact with insulation. If I find vermiculite, a light, pea-size gray fill that may contain asbestos, we leave it undisturbed until an approved lab tests it, and your local health department can name one.

Sealing the attic floor first

Before anything new goes down, we air seal the attic floor, closing the gaps around can lights, pipes, wires and the hatch where house air leaks up. It's much easier before the insulation goes on top, and insulation sitting over a draft can't do its job. Some owners ask about foam. It seals and insulates at once but costs more, and sealing the gaps and topping up loose fill usually wins unless your ductwork runs through the attic.

Even coverage over what's worth keeping

Then we add blown-in insulation over whatever's worth keeping, at an even depth across the whole ceiling, because thin edges over the outside walls are where a lot of jobs come up short. We keep the eave vents open with baffles, short channels that stop insulation from spilling into the eaves, so the attic still breathes and moisture doesn't collect in the framing. If the attic is only part of why the house won't stay comfortable, we'll talk about home insulation for the walls and floors too.

From your call to the walkthrough

  1. You call or send the form

Tell us what's bothering you, whether it's a hot upstairs, a cold room over the garage or a bill that's crept up, and how old the house is. If you've peeked in the attic, tell us roughly how many inches are up there.

  2. I look and write it up

I come out, look in the attic and ask how the house feels and what burns fuel inside, since tighter sealing changes how a furnace or water heater gets its air. Then I put what I'd do and why into a written estimate.

  3. We do the work, then walk it

Once any permit is sorted out, our installers seal the attic floor and add the insulation, so a clear path to the hatch helps. When they're done, I walk through the job with you, attic included, before we call it finished.

Attic insulation questions from Abilene homeowners

How do I know if my attic needs more insulation?

If the insulation is level with or below the top of your attic floor joists, the framing you'd step across up there, you probably need more. A look from the hatch with a flashlight usually tells you enough to decide, and when I come out I measure how many inches you already have.

Does old attic insulation need to be removed before adding more?

Usually not, because new insulation can go right on top of what's already there. Old insulation needs a different plan only when it's wet, moldy, smelly or full of animal droppings, since covering it leaves the problem in place. I'll tell you which one you've got before anything gets added.

How much does attic insulation cost in Abilene, TX?

Across the US, attic insulation usually costs about $1,700 to $2,500 per job. That's a national range for the whole job, not our price, so treat it as a rough check on the quotes you get. Your number comes from what I find in your attic, and I write it up after I've looked.

Do I need a permit for attic insulation in Abilene?

It can, because the City of Abilene requires a building permit before improvements or alterations to a property, and its Building Inspections office issues them. When a job inside city limits calls for one, we take care of it before we start, and if we're not sure, we ask the office. You can also call it at (325) 676-6273.
